Given what’s happening in the World around us, is there any hope of seeing a better world? Is there a way we can foster greater tolerance, acceptance and connections? Can we make a difference? In this episode, Rob says absolutely! and suggests an approach that works. Can we commit to it for the good of ourselves, others, and the world in which we live?
This episode of the Wiser podcast weaves together psychology, sociology, personal experiences, and a desire to live a life that matters.
Dur: 14 min 34 s
Key points
Today’s world seems to have lots of angst, pain and trouble. History shows us that’s always been the case.
As humans, we are social creatures and, after pure survival, we have safety as our main priority. This probably accounts for why we think and act the way we do.
Because of this, we tend to categorise people in various ways: them, us, right, wrong, etc.
The problem is, this creates separation, real or imagined.
Rob discusses how to practically train yourself to be more accepting, less judgemental, and more conscious of what we have in common than what divides us.
Consciously choosing to want the best for everyone you see or come across is a simple, but not easy, way of dissolving imagined barriers.
This approach to being with others is better for them, and better for you.
From this episode
“…seeing people as ‘us’ or ‘them’ only creates separation and difference where there may not need to be any.”
